SQO-OSS: Novel Approaches to Quality Evaluation

Quality, mainly due to subjectivity, is a difficult concept. Yet it is something of which we, as developers and contributors to a Free Software project, all have a notion.

The EU-funded SQO-OSS project (pronounced squash) is developing new approaches to quality assessment within the Free Software community through the assessment of public data sources: CVS/GIT/SVN, mailing lists, Bugzilla, etc.

This session will provide an opportunity for developers and the community at large to engage with an EU-funded research project by discussing what is most important to them when evaluating quality.

In a world where Free Software projects compete for the scarce resources of users and developers, how does a product get ahead? Ultimately by being of better quality, we'd hope. Quality observance within any software engineering effort is crucial to the long-term viability of the final product. The SQO-OSS project is an EU-funded body of research that aims to deliver a platform for product quality assessment for evaluating metrics based on outputs from the software engineering process.

In this talk, one of the project's researchers will present the progress to date and offer an opportunity for the community to influence this work.
